At the Broadcasters Foundation Breakfast, Wednesday, in Las Vegas, Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan accepted the Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award. The award is given to a broadcaster whose work exemplifies innovation, community service, advocacy, and entrepreneurship.
Mays, the former Clear Channel CEO, called Smulyan, “One of the most innovative broadcasters we have in our community.” Smulyan thanked everyone in the room and his family, including his dog — the only one left in America who he said still wants to hear about the FM chip in smartphones (which resulted in laughter).
No one in our industry is more deserving of this award than Jeff. Congratulations to a broadcaster who embodies all the qualities we should all strive for!
