WTOP Tops Again

Adding to its haul of 24 awards in 2016, the Washington, DC, station has just won six National Headliner Awards. WTOP’s Web team received first place for radio-affiliated website WTOP.com, and for their commitment to the category of online planned news, with coverage of the 2016 election. Dave Dildine, Neal Augenstein, Max Smith, and Amanda Iacone were recognized for their piece “Crumbling Capital” as a featured series both online and on-air. WTOP staff won the national award for best newscast with their reporting on the January 2016 blizzard. In the sports blog category, staffer Noah Frank’s outstanding efforts also earned first place.

“The way people consume news is constantly evolving, and every day we strive to deliver the most relevant news across every platform,” said Mike McMearty, WTOP’s Director of News and Programming. “To be recognized for those efforts is a small reminder that what we do truly make a difference.”
