The station has just won eight Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards. WTOP’s Chris Core was recognized for his series Core Values in the Editorial category, Kristi King for her “Sip ‘N Shop” feature, and Max Smith in the Individual Reporter category. In addition, reporters Dave Dildine, Max Smith, and Neal Augenstein’s piece “Crumbling Capital” was presented with the Douglas Southall Freeman Award. The WTOP.com web team also received honors for their work.

“The collaboration behind the scenes is truly what makes this success so special,” said Mike McMearty, WTOP’s Director of News and Programming. “We have an outstanding staff that works together, thinks outside the box, and because of that, truly shines in every aspect.”

The awards will be presented on April 1 at the annual Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards Luncheon in Roanoke, Virginia.
