President Trump Renominates Pai To FCC

And that may have been one of the agenda items when FCC Chairman Ajit Pai met with Trump at the White House on Monday. Pai said he was deeply honored to have been nominated to serve a second term. “If I am fortunate to be confirmed by the Senate, I will continue to work with my colleagues to connect all Americans with digital opportunity, foster innovation, protect consumers, promote public safety, and make the FCC more open and transparent to the American people.”

Pai was confirmed to serve as an FCC commissioner back in 2012, and Trump made him the FCC’s Chairman in January. Pai’s term on the commission was set to expire later this year. With his renomination, he will have to be confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate for another 5-year term. Pai is scheduled to appear on Wednesday before House and Senate committees with oversight over the FCC.

NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith congratulated Chairman Pai on his renomination. “During his tenure at the Commission, he has shown a deep understanding of broadcasting’s indispensable role in serving American communities with free, local, and lifeline programming. We are especially grateful for Chairman Pai’s support of AM radio revitalization, moving forward on a Next Gen TV standard, and reforming outdated media ownership rules. NAB urges his speedy confirmation.”
