Report: Expect Trump’s FCC To Relax Ownership Limits

And that’s what the NAB and others in the industry have been calling for years. A Bloomberg Law article cites several sources that believe a Republican leaning FCC will tackle that issue, it’s just an unknown as to when.

The FCC refused to ease ownership restrictions in its most recent review of media ownership rules, which split down party lines. Commissioners Pai and O’Rielly want the rules to be modified to reflect the current competitive conditions. The three Democrats on the Commission voted in favor of the status-quo.

The article says the FCC is likely to loosen restrictions on how many broadcast properties one company can own in a market and lift the ban on media companies owning newspapers and TV or radio stations in the same market.
