Alpha Media’s Country station Y93.7 FM (Salina, Kansas) would seem to be the king of blood drives. For the seventh year in a row, the station has won the “Pump Up the Volume” Blood Drive by encouraging it’s listeners to donate over 300 units of blood. Operated by the Red Cross, “Pump Up the Volume” calls on the radio audience to donate blood over the course of three days while, at the same time, including a friendly competition between nine area radio stations, as donors list their favorite radio station upon completion.
“This has been a great event that wouldn’t have continued this long without the support of the community,” said Ken Jennison, Alpha Media/Salina’s Public Service Director. “The blood drive gives the media an opportunity to be a little competitive and also help pump up our community’s blood supply during summer. At Alpha Media/Salina, we like the challenge of trying to win.”
