Gary Craig Off The Air Until Tuesday

Early Thursday morning we heard from CBS Market Manager Steve Salhany confirmed to Radio Ink that Craig is off the air until Tuesday. The bad press has been mounting against Craig in Hartford after he posted this video to Social Media at a Latino Festival in that city.

Many times, when a host gets in hot water a company rides it out to see just how bad things get, and of course, if advertisers start walking. On Wednesday, WTIC-FM sent Radio Ink Gary Craig’s apology for uploading a video to social media mocking Latino’s (READ THAT BELOW). Apparently that wasn’t enough for The Hartford Courant. In an editorial, the paper said what Craig did was unforgivable.

The Hartford Courant editorial says, “He may have made an effort to apologize for the video. But he can’t make it go away. The Hartford community now knows exactly what Mr. Craig thinks of its Latino residents. If Hartford’s Latino Festival looks like another planet to Gary Craig, he should make an effort to come into the city more often and enjoy its rich Latino culture. Use your platform, Mr. Craig, to improve understanding instead of promulgating hate.”

The video was eventually taken down from Craig’s Facebook page and the WTIC website. And so far Craig is still on the air at WTIC.

APD Ryan Jones provided Radio Ink with the following two statements Wednesday morning:
Statement from Gary: “I would like to take the time to address the video I made at last weekend’s Latino Festival. I recognize that it was a poor attempt at being humorous. It was insensitive and stupid, and I sincerely apologize.”
Statement from WTIC-FM: “Gary’s video was inappropriate and was not in line with our station’s values. We are taking this matter seriously and have communicated to Gary that there is no place for this type of content on our station.”
