They gave it a three-year run but Greater Media could not win the battle of sports talkers in Detroit with “Detroit Sports 105.1.” CBS’ 97.1. The Ticket, which went on the air in 2007, is the dominant sports station in the Detroit market, consistently number one in the 25-54 demo.
WMGC-FM will air WCSX-FM’s HD2 Detroit Oldies format during the interim until a new format is unveiled. The station will continue to air Detroit Pistons games. There is one year left on that contract.
Market Manager Steve Chassare said, “The change comes after much careful consideration of the direction of the station’s format and overall ratings over the past three years.”
