The Alpha Media cluster in Salina, KS, sprang into action and quickly organized a donation drive for local residents when their homes were damaged or destroyed from a tornado that came through the area last week. In a little more than 90 minutes, over 20 homes were damaged and six were leveled. The Alpha cluster of six stations asked listeners for bottled water, coolers, ice, and cash. The stations themselves donated 50 insulated coolers and 50 bags of ice to residents without power.
As a result of the stations’ efforts, a Salina company, Airgas, donated 2,000 pounds of dry ice and 200 pairs of leather gloves. Alpha Media’s Promotions Director in Salinas, Danielle Norwood tells Radio Ink, “The combined efforts of West’s Plaza Country Mart, Airgas and Alpha Media, Salina’s staff and listeners, helped to make a difference and reinforced Alpha Media’s mission statement of why being live and local is important to our community.”
