The Copyright Royalty Judges have published the final rule in the Web IV proceeding that determined the rates that must be paid to artists for their music being played on the Web. The only remaining question is whether anyone will appeal the new rates. Interested parties have 30 days to decide.
The NAB told Radio Ink they have no plans to appeal and, from what we hear, Pandora also will not appeal. The big question is what will SoundExchange do? It’s obvious SoundExchange wants the radio industry to pay more. We reached out to the company but have not heard back. The new rates went into effect in January and run through January 1, 2020.
