528 radio stations flipped to a holiday format in 2015 and Nielsen says that paid off big-time for many of them.

The ratings firm says, after showing signs of growth in the December ratings (Nov. 5, 2015, through Dec. 2, 2015), the Adult Contemporary format shot to new heights in the holiday book, posting new records in several demographics and finishing as the top-ranked format nationwide. It was the second consecutive year AC has increased its share of listening during the holiday survey. Millennials (aged 18-34) shot up by more than a full point compared to 2014.

The Hot AC format, across all three key demographics, according to Nielsen, had its best holiday book ever. The format also matched the all-time record for listener share among 18 to 34-year-olds and set a new record with the 25-54 audience. The Classic Hits format’s 18-34 results (4.2% share) marks the first time that Classic Hits has ever cracked 4.0 with this age group in PPM measurement.
