Bob Lind Dies Unexpectedly At Age 62

Robert J. Lind, 62, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday at his home in Raleigh. Lind was a very successful broadcaster, but he also founded the radiothon division at Children’s Miracle Network. In his 10 years with CMN he and his team launched hundreds of radiothons across the U.S., Canada, and around the world. These radiothons continue to raise millions of dollars for sick kids across the world each year.

Lind started his radio career sales working for his uncle at family-owned WSAU in Wausau. He also worked as a sales manager at WTMJ in Milwaukee and moved into management with WKSS in Hartford, followed by stints in Pittsburgh, New York City, Milwaukee, Baltimore, and Raleigh. In Baltimore and Raleigh, Lind served as a Vice President of Capitol Broadcasting Company for over a decade, overseeing radio properties in Orlando, Richmond, Baltimore, and Raleigh, as well as managing the Durham Bulls Baseball Club, professional soccer team the Raleigh Flyers, Money Mailer, and other business interests of the company.

During his time with Capitol, Lind started radiothons at both WWMX-FM in Baltimore and WRAL-FM in Raleigh. At the time he left CBC, these radiothons had raised over three million dollars for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and Duke Children’s Hospital.   Following his work with CBC, Bob went to work directly for Children’s Miracle Network where he was President and Founder of the radiothon division. In his 10 years with CMN, he and his team launched hundreds of radiothons across the U.S., Canada and around the world. These radiothons continue to raise millions of dollars for sick kids across the world each year.

  1. Not good news to start the New Year. Bob was a real radio man and as we say down under a bloody good bloke. I enjoyed his company and drive during the efforts to get The Childrens Miracle Network Charity on air in Australia but I had lost my decision making position and the new blokes did not have a clue and too scared to commit. Such a pity as we would have worked together and we had fun swapping radio stories. Bob Lind will be missed by many and I miss him so will the thousands of children he helped.
    RIP Bob Lind.
