On Thursday, The Salvation Army presented the Others Award, one of its highest honors, to Greater Media Chairman and CEO Peter Smyth in recognition of his service and contributions to the community. Smyth is a strong supporter of The Salvation Army. Greater Media, under Smyth’s leadership, also played an integral role in raising funds to help the The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Corps Center in Dorchester come to fruition. In addition, Greater Media stations support the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign, with station personalities and talent raising awareness for the effort and running PSAs to advance the campaign.

“During the past three decades Peter has revolutionized the radio industry, and at the same time continues to utilize the power of the media to help those in need in his communities,” said Major Gregory Hartshorn, General Secretary of The Massachusetts Salvation Army. “Peter’s efforts on behalf of the Salvation Army here in Massachusetts have been tremendous. Because of his work and the support of Greater Media stations, we are able to better serve others – making him truly deserving of this Others Award.”
