Radio Ink is pleased to announce the finalists for the prestigious 2018 Medallas de Cortez, the only awards dedicated to recognizing the very best in Hispanic radio. The Medallas de Cortez awards are named in honor of Raoul Cortez, founder of the first Spanish-language radio station in the United States, KCOR/San Antonio, in 1946.

CBS Radio revenue was $555.6 million in the first six months of 2017, according to the latest Entercom filing at the FCC. That's down from $577.1 million in 2016. Operating income over that six months was $90 million compared to $137.4 million in 2016. The document says CBS Radio has $1.36 billion in debt and $4.33 billion in total assets.

One person takes input in a meeting with the rigidity of an agenda while another may welcome a more freewheeling style. That's what makes the world go around and as coaches of talent we need to listen to and observe these nuances.

Now that advertisers, and the radio industry, are paying a lot more attention to the podcasting space, does that industry need a trade association similar to radio's NAB or RAB? Radio has a lot of experience with trade associations. Perhaps it's time to share a little of your wisdom.

The Broadcasters Foundation of America will posthumously bestow Jim Thompson with the Chairman's Award at the Broadcasters Foundation Breakfast during NAB Show 2023. The radio executive will be honored at the Wynn on Wednesday, April 19.

Entercom Kansas City sports talkers Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison of KCSP-AM were slightly unhappy that their hometown Kansas City Chiefs picked Tyreek Hill in the recent NFL draft. Last year, Hill pleaded guilty to punching and choking his pregnant girlfriend and received three years probation for the crime. Parkins and Harrison chose the power of radio -- and the loyalty of a radio audience -- to turn what they believed was a negative into a very big positive.

Imaging company Benztown has signed a multi-year extension with Cumulus and Westwood One. Under the new deal, Benztown will provide imaging, production, voiceover, programming, and jingles to Westwood and to Cumulus stations. The companies have been working together since 2011.

B103.9 (WXKB-FM), Fort Myers is partnering with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation of Lee County to host the 3rd Annual Big Mama’s Bike Drive. The Beasley Media group station event runs through December 10.

New York Public Media has fired Bob Garfield, co-host of On The Media, as a "result of a pattern of behavior that violated NYPR's anti-bullying policy," according to a statement.
