EMILIO ESTEFAN TO RECEIVE MEDALLAS DE CORTEZ DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARD

Radio Ink’s Hispanic Radio Conference is proud to announce that the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award will be presented this year to multi-Grammy and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Emilio Estefan. The award ceremony will cap off the first day of the conference, which is being presented March 25-26 at the Intercontinental at Doral in Miami. Two-times-Grammy-nominated BMI Latin artist Elsten Torres will perform a musical tribute to Estefan as part of the presentation. The Medallas ceremony will be followed by an opening reception.

In making the announcement, Deborah Parenti, publisher of Radio Ink, said, “The Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes an individual whose service and commitment to humanity raises the bar and inspires others to follow. No individual represents that characteristic more than Emilio Estefan. Over the years, his philanthropic work has encompassed multiple causes, including education, health, and cultural development.”

Estefan said, “One of the most important aspects of my career is the relationships that we have created within the radio industry for so many years. I feel honored to receive this recognition from all the programmers and DJs that I am fortunate to call friends. Thank you all for helping us spread our music and culture worldwide.”

“Uno de los aspectos más importantes de mi carrera son las relaciones que hemos creado dentro de la industria de la radio durante tantos años. Me siento honrado de recibir este reconocimiento de todos los programadores y DJs que tengo la suerte de llamar amigos. Gracias a todos por ayudarnos a difundir nuestra música y cultura en todo el mundo.”

Emilio Estefan is a world-renowned music, television, and film producer who has been instrumental in shaping, developing, and directing the careers of his superstar wife, Gloria, as well as Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Jon Secada, among many others. He has achieved incredible success throughout his career, boasting more than 40 years of industry-leading achievements, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and induction into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, just to name a few. With a resume that includes 19 Grammy Awards, Estefan has experimented and pushed the envelope of blending Latin, pop, and world rhythms, creating a unique style and personality that has created chart-topping worldwide hits. It is this vision that transcends the music field and spills over into film, television, and hotels and restaurants, among other business endeavors, including serving as the executive producer of the Tony Award-nominated smash Broadway musical On Your Feet! Most recently, the Library of Congress honored Emilio and Gloria with the distinguished Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

As a recipient of the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award, Estefan joins a select group of peers; the award is not presented every year. Previous recipients include Henry Cisneros, Jose Feliciano, Geraldo Rivera, Juanes, and Frank Montero.
