Salt Lake City Station Hits 40

KRCL-FM, Salt Lake City’s Community Radio Station, is turning 40 years old December 3. The anniversary will be celebrated with special programming and a live concert December 4.

The station, which plays eclectic music during the day and issue-oriented talk programs in the evening, was the result of community activist Stephen Holbrook and friends having an idea four decades ago. With the help of actor Robert Redford, the group was able to find the experts it needed, and secured funding, to put the station on the air for the first three years.

The station is northern Utah’s only 501(c)3 non-profit, member-supported community radio station.
