Job Description:
The nationally recognized School of Media at Western Kentucky University is seeking a full-time, tenure-eligible assistant professor with experience in broadcast television production. The ideal candidate will have a passion for live television and skills in multi-camera field and studio production, as well as broadcast writing.
Broadcasting is a diverse degree with video and audio production and performance as its cornerstones. It develops students well-versed in the technical, editorial and professional functions of traditional broadcasting as well as its modern successors, including podcasting and web-streaming. The major produces two weekly television broadcasts – NewsChannel 12 and The Extra Point – as well as consistent radio programming on WWHR/Revolution 91.7.
The School’s reputation for excellence and tradition of success continues to attract outstanding faculty and top students from across the nation. We seek a professional television broadcaster who understands the importance of cross-platform storytelling and who is excited to work with our faculty, students and staff to fulfill the School of Media’s mission of preparing students for careers in a changing media environment. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion and intercultural development in an educational and work environment and be willing to contribute to the inclusion efforts on campus. Employment begins in August 2020.
Responsibilities: In addition to teaching courses in basic studio and field production, producing and directing, and introductory digital media courses, the ideal candidate will also work with WKU’s student news/weather teams and capstone video productions. The successful candidate will be required to produce consistent research/creative work necessary to achieve tenure. Other responsibilities include student advising and service to the School and University.

Requirements:
A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) appropriate to the appointment and a minimum of two years of professional experience, or a master’s degree and a minimum of five years of professional experience. Candidates should have a record of teaching and research/creative work in a professional and/or university setting.
