JOB OVERVIEW:

Leads WTOP, an effective organization of over a 100 people consisting of news directors, writers, anchors, reporters, editors and staff to provide the best available local, national and international news, traffic, weather, sports and money news across all media platforms, including radio, internet and social media while serving as brand manager to maintain the imaging, marketing and overall sound.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Overall responsibility for WTOP news gathering, production, news programming and presentation across multiple platforms with the utmost in quality control.
*Provides effective leadership to a diverse workforce covered by a collective bargaining agreement that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
*Establishes short and long term program format objectives, strategies and plans to achieve maximum listenership of a quality product across multiple platforms.
*Ensures that all programming is in compliance with state and federal laws and FCC Rules and Regulations.
*Liason between Company management and Union.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Determines organization structure and staffing needs and selects, trains, develops and evaluates staff.
*Assists in preparing the Company’s annual budgets, prepares programming budgets and plans, operates within approved budgets.
*Coordinate Company’s efforts to meet established public service goals to air programming that addresses community needs and ensure accurate documentation of that programming.
Serves as Brand manager responsible for ratings success in radio and growth of online and social media platforms.
*Ensure that the overall brand meets the expectations of the audience, and develop strategies to execute on-going audience research findings and product updates.
*Monitor the sound and writing of the brand to match quality and brand expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Four (4) year degree in Journalism or Communications, preferred.
*5+ years experience managing a multi-platform news organization including during breaking news situations.
*Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, clients, news sources and the general public
*Ability to think critically and adeptly while managing in a fast-paced, highly charged and aggressive news environment
*Demonstrate knowledge of all phases of a news operation including but not limited to: news reporting and writing newscast formats, news production, newsroom organization and news gathering technology
*Understanding of newsroom technical operations including computer networking, newsroom systems, microwave, satellite and digital technology
*Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
*Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures.
*Ability to function in a team environment.
*Ability to work established schedule and other hours as needed.
*Ensures that all programming is in compliance with state and federal laws and FCC Rules and Regulations.
