Bryan Broadcasting’s GM Ben Downs became a 2019 Texas Hall of Fame inductee, on his birthday, over the weekend. Twenty Bryan Broadcasting employees boarded a bus from Bryan/College station and made the trek to Kilgore and the Texas Broadcasting Museum to see Downs honored along with 20 other broadcasters who were honored.

Downs expressed gratitude to his wife, daughters and his staff, but spent most of his acceptance speech extolling the virtues of local radio still today, and how satellite, regionally and nationally delivered produce could never serve their communities like local radio, or be a integral part of them-especially during times of crisis.

Downs joked that his retirement plan consists of a 9-1-1 call and gurney being rolled in to his office. But, maintains he still has much to accomplish, and his love affair with local radio was far from over.

Texas Radio Hall of Fame Owner/Operations Manager Josh Holstead has known Downs for over 30 years, and agreed with those in attendance that his contributions to our industry are immeasurable, and this honor was long overdue. -but his acceptance speech was right on time!
