Former Alpha Host Pleads To Misdemeanor

Mathew Rydberg, who was known as Matt McKay on Alpha’s KFRX-FM in Lincoln, was charged with domestic assault back on April 20. This week he took a plea deal in a case where he was accused of strangling someone at his home. Rydberg was fired by Alpha in May.

Authorities say Rydberg, while intoxicated, got into an argument with a woman at his home. The woman told police she went to sleep in her children’s room when Rydberg became angry. Police say the woman told them Rydberg “pushed on her neck and she couldn’t breathe, pushed her face, bit her nose and shoved her.” The incident was allegedly witnessed by the children.

Rydberg accepted a plea deal from felony strangulation to misdemeanor domestic assault – intentionally causing bodily injury. He faces up to one year in prison, a $1,000 fine or both, when he’s sentenced October 1.
