Another Station Crippled By Ransomware

Tampa community radio station WMNF is stepping up its online security system after a Ransomware attack. The station did not pay the Ransomware and executives expect the attack will wind up costing about $5,000 to get their data recovered and upgrade security.

The Tampa Times is reporting that WMNF GM Cindy Reichard says the issues started about a month ago on a studio computer. She believes the attack came through the Audio Vault system.

No sensitive data was affected. Audio archives were lost, promos are gone, and archived news and public affairs programming may be lost permanently. The station’s HD broadcasts were also knocked off the air.
