KYW Refreshes Its Brand

With competition in electronic/digital media tougher than ever, branding is a huge deal. With that in mind, iconic Philadelphia station KYW Newsradio (KYW-AM), which has been serving the City of Brotherly Love and environs for over half a century, has unveiled a bold new logo and brand identity to reflect its multi-platform growth. As part of the refresh, the station, in partnership with legendary arranger and Philadelphia native Larry Gold, also introduced a modern update to its beloved jingle.

“KYW Newsradio has evolved into a modern news organization serving a wide range of listeners across various platforms and we are proud to introduce visual and audio enhancements that reflect who the station is today,” said David Yadgaroff, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Entercom Philadelphia. “The station is a local treasure that remains an integral part of the city, and to honor those roots we worked with hometown artists to capture its essence and develop the refreshed brand identity. Everyone in town sings our jingle and we’re thrilled to introduce this new contemporary sound.”

  1. Just remember: Don’t change the formula of Coca-Cola! In other words, don’t tamper with a successful product. Look what happened when the Coca-Cola company did just that. It took ten years for Group W (Westinghouse Broadcasting) to turn a profit with the all-news format on KYW in Philadelphia and WINS in New York, but both stations became top billers. Today, both of them refute the AM naysayers and wizards of woe. Be careful…don’t mess with success.
