WGLT Taking Over Peoria’s Public Radio Station

Illinois State University and Bradley University signed a deal in which WGLT-FM will take over WCBU-FM in Peoria starting June 1. WCBU will continue to run broadcast operations on the Bradley campus and will keep the WCBU call letters and 89.9 FM frequency.

WGLT GM R.C. McBride said, “We know some have been concerned about a potential loss of localism at WCBU. We plan to increase WCBU’s local content just as we have been able to do at WGLT over the last several years.” McBride discusses the takevoer HERE.

There will be staff reductions at WCBU as job responsibilities are combined.

Bradley Chief Information Officer Zach Gorman said, “Because we know there will be a reduction in staff, we are working with the WCBU employees to identify opportunities that fit their skills. Some of those opportunities could be available at ISU under the management of WCBU.”

WCBU went on the air in 1970. WGLT is licensed to ISU and has been on the air since 1966.
