Nashville Public Radio has named former CBS Radio executive Steve Swenson as its new President and CEO. Swenson succeeds Rob Gordon who announced his retirement after 24 years as CEO.

Most recently, Swenson served as the Senior Vice President and Market Manager at CBS Radio in Washington, D.C. Swenson also served as VP & General Manager of CBS Radio’s news stations in New York City, 1010 WINS and WCBS 880. Before his stint in NYC, he was GM at WTOP in D.C.

Swenson said he’s excited to become part of the Nashville community, calling it the most high-potential and culturally rich media market in the country.

Swenson joins Nashville Public Radio following a period when the station has doubled its local reporting team, broadened its reach — including through a new award-winning series of podcasts — and just completed a $4.6 million capital campaign to enhance programming and audience development.
