Where Is Most Audio Consumption Happening?

We’re guessing you already know the answer to that question, but just in case you don’t, here’s what Edison Research is saying about where consumers listen to all types of audio most of the time.

In-car is the top listening location in the U.S. for all audio, according to data from Edison Research. In any given day, nearly everyone in the U.S. will consume at least some audio, and on average, people age 13 and older spend four hours per day listening to music, news, personalities, and sports. Seventy percent of Americans age 13 and older listen to audio in a car each day — higher even than the portion who listen to audio at home.

Edison’s Larry Rosin will go into more detail about this new information on Thursday afternoon at the Radio Show in Orlando.

  1. Beyond that, it would be interesting to know what percentage is listening to terrestrial radio, what percentage is listening to satellite, and what percentage is listening to an internet stream (or download).
