Another WFAN headache for Entercom. Former CBS Radio Account Executive Lauren Lockwood has filed a $5 million sexual harassment lawsuit against WFAN host Joe Benigno and CBS Radio. According to The New York Post she claims the WFAN host pressured her into having a threesome with him and his wife and prostitutes on several occasions.
The suit also alleges that WFAN was run like a frat house, with drinking by employees starting as early as 10 a.m. and executives condoning buying prostitutes for ad clients.
Lockwood worked at WFAN from 2006 until 2017. She claims station executives tolerated a hostile work environment that subjected her to sexual harassment. She claims her career at the stations was cut short after she turned Benigno down. The suit describes a culture at CBS Radio that included heavy drinking and claims that CBS Radio executives “knew and permitted the practice of taking prospective clients to strip clubs.”
Benigno hosts midday with Evan Roberts. He joined WFAN in 1994 as an overnight host.
A spokesperson for Entercom told the newspaper the company does not comment on pending litigation but added, “we do intend to defend the company vigorously.”
WFAN was purchased by Entercom as part of the merger. Since the purchase was announced, former WFAN morning show co-host Craig Carton resigned after being accused of being part of a ticket scam to pay off gambling debts (Carton denies the charges) and Mike Francesa resigned, after a year-long send off, then was rehired a few months later.
Just yesterday (09/26/2018) when the topic of todays senate hearing on Bret Cavanaugh came up and Benignos comment was ” oh – you mean she is going to show up” spoken with his usual saracasm and demeaning way. Its clear that this JERK has not seen the errors of his ways with regards to denigrating women and being totally insensitive. Who is he to denigrate a woman whom he has never met who has claimed that she is a victim of a sexual assault? This seems consistent with the same attitude towards women that he himself was charged with. The world is better with clowns like this off the airwaves– bye bye BRO
