The veteran radio personality is back on the air Monday 3/19 after ten-month absence to deal with throat cancer. Wainwright said the cancer was discovered last April almost by accident, and it’s been an ongoing medical odyssey ever since. “It was eventually diagnosed as an aggressive form of throat cancer. It was nasty, and had already begun spreading to lymph nodes in my neck.”
Treatment with chemotherapy and intensive radiation began almost immediately. “I don’t recommend this as a summer vacation. It was exhausting and often quite painful. I don’t want to go through the whole soap opera again, but if anyone’s interested, I posted the full story on our WSYR morning show blog, complete with gory details, and hopefully, a few laughs.”
