Birmingham, AL, stations WBHK 98.7 Today’s Kiss, WBHJ 95.7 Jamz, and 610 WAGG welcomed the return of Huffman High School students on Friday, March 9, with smiles, hugs, and a balloon release at the ringing of the bell. The students, faculty, and community of Huffman High School are in mourning following a shooting inside of the school on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Shots were fired at 3:45 p.m., killing one student and injuring another. Senior Courtlin Arrington was shot and killed while exiting her afternoon classroom. Arrington had recently been accepted to Concordia College and planned to study nursing.
WBHJ 95.7 JAMZ visited all other Birmingham City High Schools and provided orange and green ribbons in honor of Courtlin Arrington and Huffman High School. 95.7 JAMZ created the hashtag #HealingHuffman as a symbol of their support for the Huffman community. JAMZ also spoke with students at other Birmingham City High Schools and encouraged them to think before they act and to always remember that guns are never the answer.
On Wednesday, March 14, the three stations will join Huffman High School for the “National School Walk Out.” The nationwide protest, put into motion by a group called EMPOWER, was organized as a memorial for the 17 students and teachers killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Flordia.
