NABOB Opposes Lifting Ownership Caps

The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters has filed comments with the FCC opposing the lifting of the Commission’s subcaps rules. There has been a strong movement on the part of broadcasters to eliminate the subcap rules, which limits owners from having more than 8 stations per market or 5 on each band.

NABOB members own approximately 180 stations, 76 of those are on the AM dial. Jim NABOB Executive Director James Winston says NABOB members will be impacted significantly if they are placed in the position of competing against group owners operating up to 8 FM stations in a market. He writes that the elimination of the subcap rule would undermine the Commission’s effort to revitalize AM Radio and for that reason he’s says the calls for the elimination of the subcap rule should be denied.
