Harry O Calls It A Day At Northern Iowa’s KLSS

Mason City, Iowa’s Globe Gazette reports that KLSS morning man Harry O (aka Harry O’Neal) is moving on to other things after 32 years in the saddle. During that time he has had thousands of listeners from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday, taken part in numerous bizarre activities for North Iowa charities. He spent 48 hours in a water tank; was entombed in a casket; slept overnight in a cardboard box; had his head shaved; and has kissed a pig or two — all to help raise money or awareness for needy causes.

“I always liked music and one day, when I was pitching manure in my dad’s barn, he had the radio on to KGLO. And I got to thinking that sounds like a lot better job than what I’m doing now,” said O’Neal. “They told me when they hired me, ‘wake this town up,’ and that’s what I’ve tried to do.”
