So What Is Beasley Getting For $240 Million?

1

The 21 stations Greater Media owns are in Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. No doubt part of the reason this deal made sense to the Beasley family was the fact that Greater Media owned stations in two markets Beasley also had clusters in (Philadelphia and Charlotte). This would give them the opportunity to grow those clusters. Let’s take a closer look at the markets.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Charlotte, where Beasley owns five FMs and two AMs. It would be picking up two FMs and one AM in this deal, and has already announced it will divest stations in Charlotte. It will have to move two of the FMs to stay under the government cap. Let’s take a closer look.

In Philadelphia, Greater Media owns

  1. A couple of mistakes: In Philadelphia, Greater Media sold WPEN (AM)/950 at least a year ago. It is now owned by Family Stations, has the call letters WKDN, and carries conservative Christian programming. In New Jersey, 1250 AM in Morristown is WMTR, not WWTR. It plays classic hits. 1170 AM in Bridgewater (not Morristown) is WWTR and carries South Asian programming for the huge Indian and Pakistani community in Middlesex and Somerset Counties.
