Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan updated investors on NextRadio during his Thursday earnings call. Smulyan said America’s biggest advertiser, The Home Depot, is now a paying client on NextRadio. “We’re excited about that because now we’re about to see where the era of interactive advertising, with the remarkable metrics that it gives our advertisers and stations, will start paying dividends for every broadcaster. We can not be more proud that the era of interactive advertising is beginning in the current year.”

Smulyan also said that because of the impact NextRadio has had in the United States, he’s been contacted by many international operators. There’s interest in Canada, and NextRadio is launching its first international network in Peru in the next two weeks. Smulyan also says the fastest-growing smartphone segment, what’s called the unlocked phones, is adding the NextRadio app. “We will be preloaded on Blue and Alcatel phones, and those are the phones you buy at Amazon, Costco, Walmart, and Best Buy.”
