Apple to Start Charging for Radio

2

As of January 29, iTunes Radio will no longer be free. The service which was launched back in 2013 will cost $10.00 per month. Beats 1 will be the only music service available for free from Apple. Apple notified customers last week by e-mail. Here’s what an Apple spokesperson told Buzzfeed about the change…

“We are making Beats 1 the premier free broadcast from Apple and phasing out the ad-supported stations at the end of January. Additionally, with an Apple Music membership, listeners can access dozens of radio stations curated by our team of music experts, covering a range of genres, commercial-free with unlimited skips. The free three-month trial of Apple Music includes radio.”

  1. In my humble opinion BEATS 1 is the only really well done channel in Apple radio and all the others are poorly programmed, substandard, and not worth any amount of money. Mostly automated and badly done. Beats One MIGHT be worth paying for because it’s strong and compelling and it’s clear it’s the only channel @TimCook is investing in. It will be interesting to see how many subscribe. Apple does tend to get things right. If they invested in all channels like they did with BEATS ONE they would get a lot more subscribers.
