It seems you feel these "squirrels" are a waste of time because they want their schedules to be efficient, their commercial to sound right and get what they paid for. I would hate to have you as a Rep. What? Hope a big business that doesn't know how to spend their ad budget comes along and signs up for a long term contract with no maintenance? Your article is what is wrong with radio. Squirrels grow if they have a station who helps them grow. Those who can... do... Those who can't write a book.

Every account is important for radio these days. What decade are you living in? Most big accounts are handled by an agency with a transactional commission (let's say 5%). Small retail business (squirrel) pays a much higher commission (typically around 20%). Do the math. $20K from transactional, after the agency takes their 15% you make $950. The squirrel spends $5K. You just made $1000. I'll take the squirrel. Why do you think stations pay a higher commission on direct retail?
