(UPDATE) Allinger Collects Over $26K

In Ithaca, New York, after five days of Walkin the Country 103.7 QCountrys Chris Allinger has raised more than $26,000. For the second year, Q Country morning host, Chris Allinger strapped on his backpack to walk for the Food Bank of the Southern Tiers BackPack Program. Allinger walked to every town in Tompkins County raising funds for the program that helps feed children at risk of hunger on weekends and holidays during the school year.

Allinger said, I couldnt be happier with the result.  People got the message that there are children going hungry right here in our County. We went out and asked for $3.00 to feed a child for a weekend.  Look what happens when a community comes together.

The Food Banks BackPack Program provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when children do not have access to school meal programs. Each Friday children in need receive a bag of simple, easy to prepare nutritious food to get them through weekends and holidays. These children, who rely on school meal programs for sustenance, may otherwise go without when school is not in session.
