February 28, 2011
According to the Associated press Democratic Attorney General Gary King is investigating whether Republican Governor Susana Martinez is allowed to use her leftover campaign money for radio ads. The ads being played are promoting her drive to end driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. The republican governor told the AP that "her office has concluded that state law allows the governor to use campaign funds for the advertising. Common Cause of New Mexico says the governor violated campaign finance laws restricting how campaign money can be spent. The group says the ads are really lobbying and not an election expense.
