Clear Channel Goes Gaga With Facebook.

February 14, 2011 – Clear Channel Radio teamed with Lady Gaga for a cool Facebook promotion over Grammy weekend.  The collaboration focused on the use of Facebook instead of telephone request lines. Fans entered the contest via Facebook for a chance to win a trip to Lady Gaga’s first 2011 U.S. tour date in Atlantic City on February 19, meet Lady Gaga in person, and receive her autographed piano.
The contest ran on Clear Channel stations in 95 cities across the country. Listeners entered the contest through the Facebook page of the station and the Facebook page for iheartradio. iheartradio is Clear Channel Radio’s digital platform, which delivers over 750 of local radio stations from 150 cities.

Clear Channel says The Facebook Pages for iheartradio and the 95 Clear Channel radio stations now have 1.4 million fans.  Clear Channel Radio CEO John Hogan said “Enabling fans to use Facebook to enter this contest marks the first time the time honored telephone request line has been replaced with the social media platform, activating the natural social community built around our radio station brands. It also allows a deep tie-in among the fans of both the stations and Lady Gaga. “With the promotional power to reach 228 million people on a monthly basis, plus a unique collection of media, digital and mobile assets, no one else in the radio industry is positioned as strongly as Clear Channel to promote new music, products and features on this kind of national scale.”

All contestants who entered via the participating Clear Channel stations’ Facebook Pages received access to exclusive behind-the- scenes footage of the making of Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way, in stores May 23.

It is impossible not to be a fan of the idea machine within Clear Channel. The Grammy Award Contest tie-in with Facebook on-line registration is just another example of someone asking, how can we make our radio stations and platforms more exciting and user friendly? Clear Channel has lead the way with iheartradio, crowd-sourcing for new groups and artists and social media. Now we see someone asking what is another better idea? The old contest line still works but this opens a whole new horizon. Radio has always been about new ideas, every morning! Good for CCU! Good for radio!
