CT Station Goes Noncommercial

January 31, 2011: Ridgefield Broadcasting AC WQQQ (Q-103 FM) will end commercial operations as of February 7, and will become a noncommercial public station through an alliance with Fairfield, CT-based WSHU Public Radio Group.

Station owner and founder Dennis Jackson calls the change a "bittersweet moment," saying the station has dozens of dedicated staffers and volunteers and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities over the years.

The station's ownership will not change, Jackson said, and WQQQ will continue to provide local information and entertainment. "However," he said, "the resources of programming partner the WSHU Public Radio Group and NPR together mean that the program content we are able to deliver to the community will be considerably enriched."

Q-103's programming may continue as an online station run by longtime GM and morning personality Joe Loverro.
