Former GM Gets Probation

This goes back to a story we first wrote about in July. WCBE-FM GM Dan Mushalko was accused of doctoring invoices to manipulate cash flow and hide the fact that the station owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to NPR.

WCBE is located in Columbus, Ohio and owned by the Columbus City School district. The station is an NPR affiliate.

On Wednesday Mushalko was given 2 years probation and fined $500. He admitted he falsified invoices to hide the debt from school officials. His guilty plea was to telecommunications fraud, which is a felony. Mushalko changed the invoices to amounts low enough that the station could afford to pay them from the WCBE’s reserves. A school district investigation showed WCBE couldn’t cover the actual cost of all its bills.

Mushalko resigned his position back in June.
