Did Beasley Fire Host For Criticizing The Company?

That’s Fort Myers sports talker David Mouton’s side of the story anyway. Beasley Media had no comment about the Moulton firing from 99.3 ESPN. Mouton’s release came one day after a story ran in the Fort Myers News Press where he was very critical of Beasley’s firing of his long-time partner Mark Miller earlier in the year.

Miller and Moulton were together on the station for 10 years. Last year Beasley decided not to renew Miller’s contract. It’s important to note the station was never a ratings juggernaut. Moulton also writes a column twice per week for the paper.

The firing comes on the first day the show was supposed to air following an article in the News-Press where Moulton voiced his opinion about the firing of former Miller and Moulton co-host Mark Miller. In the article Moulton said, “I took it, rightly or wrongly – and I still feel this way – I took it as a betrayal by the company. I’ve given back a lot of money over the years, and a lot has taken place behind the scenes to benefit that station and that show. To me it was personal. I don’t know if it should be. But my name was on the show, so it was personal. I wasn’t even informed (Miller’s firing) was happening. I’m always going to have a problem with that, whether I should or not. It would have been nice to have been told why. I felt I had earned that. I had to get over that. I don’t know if I am.”

  1. I have seen this station do wrong by many of their prior employees.if your last name is Beasley, you will have no problem keeping a job there and you will do no wrong. Is it also a problem they didn’t renew Cassio’s contract so daddy’s (Brad Beasley) son (Chris Beasley) could take the job? They only promote themselves I.e if you’re a Beasley. The “franchise” is pure garbage, and this show will only be in existence until their contract runs out. Moulton challenged them and wouldn’t let down and take their lies anymore SWfl applauds you.

  2. I’d say that’s a big yes. There’s no free speech in business, even on your own time. This guy should sue. He’s entitled to his opinion. He’s paid to do a job, not for what he says outside of his work. Or even IN his work, as long as he’s on topic and not using offensive language. But that’s where radio is: all about bucks and robots — and leveraging itself to hell so we can pick up the tab indirectly later.

If this guy changes his name to Beasley, he might get his job back. Seems that’s the prime criterion for who they’ll hire. Pretty incestuous bunch. And I don’t believe for a minute that the Beasley kids would have made it if they started out on the open market without Daddy’s help. They’d be shoveling mule dung.

The Beasley’s get plenty of good, free publicity (see this mag’s last cover). They’re happy to talk a storm then. But when they kick some dude into the street, suddenly they’re the “No-Comment Beasleys.” Not even the decency to flesh out the story and act like decent people. Same as every other radio company. When you join, you’re “family.” When they’re done with you, you’re a non-person.

A big black-eye for the Beasley farce.
