Did You See What These Two Entercom Hosts Did?

Entercom Kansas City sports talkers Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison of KCSP-AM were slightly unhappy that their hometown Kansas City Chiefs picked Tyreek Hill in the recent NFL draft. Last year, Hill pleaded guilty to punching and choking his pregnant girlfriend and received three years probation for the crime. Parkins and Harrison chose the power of radio — and the loyalty of a radio audience — to turn what they believed was a negative into a very big positive.

“Everybody was just kind of fingerwagging and trying to be the most outraged about domestic violence,’’ said Parkins, who, with Harrison, is co-host of a weekday afternoon sports talk show on KCSP. “It’s obvious that’s the correct stance but it’s also the easiest stance to have. Everybody is against domestic violence.

Parkins told ESPN, “We just thought we shouldn’t just talk about it. We should be about it. We can’t change the fact the Chiefs drafted Tyreek Hill. None of us can change that. So let’s see if we can turn a negative into a positive.’’ Parkins and Harrison started a fundraiser for Kansas City’s Rose Brooks Center which is a shelter for abused women and children. They set a goal of $5,000. At the time we posted this story, they had raised over $11,000.
